COMMENTARY:
Lots of very nice cars this week. A pristine-looking, if not original, 82
Weissach went for $10.5K. A very low mile 94 GTS auto closed in low
$40s and did not sell. The bidders are burned out very early on these cars as
there were few bids at the end. Two fairly nice 91 S4s closed, both at
respectable numbers, once selling.
Under each date for each item, the first row shows the bid amounts at the end of that day, while the second row is the total number of bids at that point..

#555020104 1980 928 Manual with 124K miles |
$4,500 minimum, Opened Feb-04 Closes Feb-11 |
Appears to be another unannounced Euro car (no VIN supplied) from sidemarkers. Has S trim (padded steering wheel, spoilers). Mentions German gauges. Mentions interior needs work. Note console wrinkle.. Looks like velour/leather seats. says "for parts or restoration", but it doesn't look that bad. | - | - | - | - | - | - | $4,500 |

Eeek! What a color! Poor guy put a lot into this car, but I'm not sure what he gained. I love it when he says "the car was bottomed out." A/C compressor broke off. Yikes! | - | - | - | - | - | - | $6,000 |

Dan Schmitt again, but let's forget about Dan this time. This 81 has
S spoilers, padded steering wheel and checkered interior. Could this
be a Euro "S" or Competition model? It has Euro sidemarkers,
too. I'll ask for the VIN. Dan mentions no faults and says
interior is original. The interior shows no obvious faults. Many
of the pics are too dark to see details. The engine compartment looks
grimy.
Ooops! I missed the VIN, which includes ZZZ, so this is a Euro car. The question is whether it is an S with 300 HP or a non-S with 229. It looks like an S, but those could have been add-ons. Update: Another 928 fan decoded the VIN and this is a S model Euro car. |

Buying house. Re-spray 4 years ago, broken A/C. Some interior wear and dash cracks. No mention of maintenance history. No pics. This is an eBay problem. eBay basically expects you to know HTML coding to get more than a single pic loaded. | - | - | - | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |

Try again. Previous ad had no pics - no bids. This one, not on
eBay Motors (there's a novel tactic), has some pics, and they are
revealing. Claims of a flawless car in previous ads have
evaporated. Now he admits a few minor flaws. The console is
bowed and has a brace screwed on. What I don't get is that he
spent $15K fixing up what he says was a nice car, and he doesn't fix these
things. The ads make no sense to me. Apparently no one else bought the
story the first time either.
Here's what I said the last time. Uh, add up the numbers. This guys says the car was real nice when he got it. He spent over $15K getting it ready to sell. I'm not sure what he started with, but most of it isn't there anymore. Very strange. Good luck recouping the investment. |

Another retread - third time for this one.
Here's what I said the last time. Back again. Humph. Doesn't do anything for me. I'll bet we see this one again. My theory - it's not a good car. People bid on it, then find out it has some hidden problems and back out. |

A retread. More pics this time, clearly showing dash crack I thought I
saw the first time. That probably killed the deal as it was not
mentioned. Console is missing shifter center roll panel. Wonder about
other unseen faults. Good luck.
Here's what I said the first time. Mentions no faults. Looks pretty decent. Possible dash crack at right edge of glovebox appears to be a photo glitch. Little feedback, but has sold 2 vehicles recently. |

Ew, things are picking up on eBay! Nice car, but if you visit the
seller's website (linked in the ad) you learn he is expecting a premium
price: $32K. Why run an auction? I doubt he will get much action
after people see that. At most he might expect $25K, IMHO. It's
funny, too when you read the "flaws" he describes on his webpage.
Several are very easy to fix according to the seller - so why didn't he fix
them?
Update: Seller has revised his webapge to eliminate the $32K price and add some juicy tidbits such as Dyno data (a strong 290+). |

Other than cracks in dash pod (mentioned in ad) and broken vanes in rear A/C grills, can't see much to criticize in this car. Ad says front bumper cover is discolored, but it is not visible in pics. Someone pointed out the rather obvious (when you stop to look) custom console box. Must hold a CD changer. About a foot higher than normal. Interesting. | $15,100 | $17,250 (reserve met) |

This car sold on Jan-23. Guess the deal fell through. Here's what
I said the first time.
A Mephisto Motors car. These guys bother me...they had a Glocker Porsche that they did not reveal to be a copy (even though anyone should know). Actually this car does look nice. Says no dash cracks, but a cover obscures that area. |

Nice looking 78 with S4-look and newish wheels (deal includes original phone dials). Says seats are "Ricaro" (hee, hee Recaro) but they appear to be S/S4 Porsche. "Rust"/black interior looks OK to me. Speedo out. Other minor problems noted. This may be a nice car, if you get a little more information/pics of motor. Clean looking low mile GTS from famous owner (big deal). Carfax shows
recent accident not mentioned in ad. Mileage report error in CarFax is
probably not meaningful.
Reply on accident is that it was a rear quarter which was replaced. The reply tried to seriously downplay the accident. I'm wondering about the paint match with the black metallic color. Metallics are tough due to the way the metal flakes orient differently from one spray job to the next. |

Weissach Edition with Cup wheel update. I'd like to have this one! Clean and new looking -characteristic of San Diego cars. Look at that paint - Porsche paint is amazing! Few 20 year old cars would have paint even close to this nice. No mention is made of the luggage or gold tone wheels that came with this model. There is a little confusion about the S designation. S cars did not hit the US until 83, but information about the Weissach Edition is not readily available. So, my guess is that this is a 220HP US non-S. | $10,500 | $10,500 | $10,500 | $10,500 | $10,500 | $10,500 (CLOSED) |

At least the second time through. Did not meet reserve the last
time. Here's what I said the first time:
Dealer. Early 86. Calls it an S4 by mistake. Mileage disparity in ad. Anyone for blue? The same dealer, under a different eBay identity, has the 86 manual for sale below. You gotta love stuff like "90,600 carfull (sic) miles." |

Dan Schmit running it through again. Here's what I said the first

Dealer Dan Schmitt is usually too optimistic in his reserve price, although he claims "low reserve" this time. Looks OK, but the engine looks a bit messed with. Missing bottle cap, intake runners look like they were sprayed with aluminum paint. |
